Sound card

A typical sound card is shown on the right. The sound card is the hidden inside the system unit and only the back panel of it is accessible.

As you can see, there are a number of small round jack sockets that will facilitate the speakers, microphone (mic), joystick (for playing games) and midi devices such as a keyboards for you budding musicians.

Sound cards these days are providing facilities for surround sound and on some you will find a number of jack sockets and such like.

There are no real considerations when choosing a sound card, some offer more memory and channels but it's a matter of what make of sound card you want.
